About us

In August 2010 my wife, Valerie, our three kids and I (Christian) returned from a fantastic, fourteen-month, motorhome trip across South and Central America that included parts of the US.

You can view pictures of this trip on our travel blog www.baudchon-baluchon.com . Although written in French, our mother tongue, the pictures are worth a thousand words!

During this trip, we realized that in our digital world of GPS and smartphones, travel and hiking maps are still an absolute must for travellers. Even with the use of GPS and smartphones, printed maps are still a mandatory backup. They are the only way to have a complete overview of a geographic area, and printed maps are the best way to share and plan a trip.

Here is how we came to this conclusion:

(this picture was taken at dusk, on the Salar de Uyuni, on October 10, 2009, at 3,656 meters / 11,995 ft above sea level, at the exact place where we slept that night)

A few kilometers into the famous province of Sur Lipez, Bolivia, our GPS stopped working. We had no printed maps- of course. It would have been a real nightmare. Fortunately, however, travelling with us was one of the rangers who was beginning his one-month shift in a remote area of the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve of Andean Fauna.

A couple of months after returning home, we launched LaCompagniedesCartes.fr. Almost ten years later, we are the proud owners of MapsCompany.com/ LaCompagniedesCartes.fr.

We proudly serve more than 2,000 passionate travellers per month, with 15,000 unique products including travel guides as well as road, hiking, and wall maps.
