Corsica is often described as an island-mountain, a mountain in the sea. Here, you don't just have to run after the 2,000 m peaks, since the middle mountains are just as interesting, culturally richer, and the coastline is exceptional: you can hike on the coast for tens of kilometres, two or three days in a row (to the north, in the Agriates and at the top of Cap Corse, to the south in the Sartenais) without finding the slightest modern construction. In the mountains, however, one will be amazed at the difficulty and the originality of the routes, because one often walks, even on the GR® 20, on secular paths which have character, in search of landscapes worthy of Alps, also in search of traces of the old agro-pastoral economy. In short, hiking in Corsica is more demanding than one might think, the elevations can be substantial, but the discoveries are up to par: small sapphire lakes, grandiose pine forests, peaks, panoramic summits with sea view, and all that obviously mostly under the sun (exactly).
