Vesdre and Hautes Fagnes: a country of contrasts, a region of rivers.
Almost totally in the Vesdre basin, the GR 573 complies with an indisputable geographical coherence. The journey is, however, extremely contrasted and all the more interesting. The rivers are, they, omnipresent.
By committing along the Vesdre, at the exit of Liège, the course will sinuate between two very differentiated countries. On the north shore, the country of Herve, fertile, aggressive and laughing region. To the south, the terrains Ardennes, wild and captivating. Between them, villages, some cities: Pepinster, Verviers, Eupen ...
After Eupen, going up the Helle, the GR undertakes in the Ardennes of the Forests and then leads to the high fagnes to the sorry Landes. Then he follows the Hoëgne in the middle of the peat bogs. Very forest to polller, the course penetrates after in the region of theux, where, new contrast, the landscapes become softer, clearer. The last kilometers to Pepinster find a wildest tone.
A second route, from Pepinster to Belleheid, passing on the spa heights, renews this set of salaries of terroirs and discoveries where alternate rivers, streams, tourist cities, deep forests and historic monuments.
